Our Story

Nearly 50 Years Strong...

In 1970, local musicians Earl Cooper and Don Johnston joined together to see if there were any other Highlanders in the Highlands: it was time to form a Pipes and Drums Band. It was not always easy, but their persistence made it work. With Don being the only drummer, and Earl being the only piper, the chances of success were slim. Yet with an outpouring of support from the Ladies Auxiliary, as well as a smattering of community interest, the Haliburton Highlanders Pipes and Drums Band came into fruition. For the past 48 years, the band has added musical pride to festivals, graduations, special events, parades, and celebrations across the county.

Today, we are a group of 15 dedicated men and women, who have been playing music for anywhere from 50 years, to 50 days. Our goal is to make music accessible to our community, and carry on the intentions of using music to bring people together.

All ages and skill levels are welcome. We practice weekly, and all are welcome to sit in on a practice or start from the beginning. Contact Emily for more information at 647-554-1311.
